A regional commander of Purba Banglar Communist Party (Lal-Pataka) was killed in a 'shootout' between his cohorts and law enforcers at Ataikula in Pabna early yesterday.
The deceased, Abdul Hamid alias Thosha Hamid, 32, son of Abdur Rashid of Kakilakhali village in Ataikula, was accused in a number of cases including three for murder, police said.
A police team raided Kakilakhali village shortly after midnight following a tip-off that Hamid and his gang were holding a secret meeting there, said Habibul Islam, officer-in-charge of Ataikula Police Station.
When the team reached near Kakilakhali Beel at about 3:30am, the gang opened fire on law enforcers suspecting them as their rivals.
