ACC official held with Tk 10 lakh bribe
Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) caught a deputy director of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) red-handed last night with bribe money from the commission office at Agrabad in the port city.
Rab also recovered Tk10 lakh from Deputy Director SM Sabbir Hasan's office during the drive at about 10:00pm.
Major Ali Ashfaq Ahmed, deputy director of Rab-7, told The Daily Star that they detained Sabbir after an official of a knitting company had lodged a complaint against him with Rab.
Quoting Gawhor S Jamil, the complainant and the general manager of 4H Group, Maj Ashfaq said Sabbir was demanding Tk 50 lakh from the company as a consignment was missing from the Chittagong port, saying that he would make a negative report about the matter if they fail to meet the demand.
Later, Sabbir settled the matter in exchange for Tk 10 lakh, the Rab official said.
Gawhor sent an employee of the knitting company along with the money to Sabbir and Rab caught Sabbir red-handed, Maj Ashfaq said.
