Ruet students on indefinite class boycott

Students of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) yesterday started indefinite class boycott programme to press home their 12-point demand.
The demands include appointment of new teachers and construction of a shaheed minar on the campus, internet facility at all dormitories, preservation and collection of liberation war memories, appointment of physical instructors at gymnasium, reconstruction of the auditorium which was damaged by fire a few months ago and new buses for transport of students.
Hundreds of students of the university brought out a procession on the campus at around 9:30am and held a rally in front of the administrative building.
At the rally, the students said they had earlier formed human chain, boycotted classes and submitted a memorandum to the vice chancellor but the university authorities did not pay heed to the demands.
Later, the students held a press conference on the campus at around 1:30pm where they expressed their determination to continue class boycott programme until the demands are met.
Contacted, Vice Chancellor Prof Sirajul Karim Chowdhury told this correspondent that the university authorities would take immediate steps to meet the demands of the students.
