DU VC, Duta leaders meet detained teachers

Dhaka University (DU) Vice-Chancellor Prof SMA Faiz and representatives of DU Teachers' Association (Duta) met the detained teachers at Dhaka Central Jail yesterday.
Prof SMA Faiz said he along with Duta Acting President Prof Tazmeri SA Islam and Acting General Secretary Dr Mamun Ahmed went to the jail in the afternoon and discussed the overall situation with the detained teachers.
"We discussed the steps taken for the release of the teachers and other relevant issues," he said.
Prof Tazmeri said, "We feel that our colleagues are becoming frustrated over the delay in their release. So, we met them to express our solidarity."
Four teachers -- Duta President Prof Sadrul Amin, General Secretary Prof Anwar Hossain, social sciences faculty dean Prof Harun-or-Rashid and applied physics department chair Prof Neem Chandra Bhowmik -- and nine students were arrested in the wake of violent incidents that took place on the campus in August.
