Arms, ammo seized in Rajbari, one held

A team of Rab-8 recovered a good number of arms, ammunition and arrested an illegal arms dealer from Chhoto Kolkolia village under Pangsha upazila of Rajbari district yesterday.
The recovered arms include six oneshooter guns, a foreign made gun, a one- foot-long sword, a big size machete and 48 bullets of different firearms.
Rab sources said, acting on a tip-off, a team of Rab-8 raided the house of Raju Khan of Chhoto Kolkolia village yesterday morning and recovered the lethal weapons. They arrested Raju Ahmed, 27, from the spot while two others-- Abdur Razzak and Rakibul Hasan Ruma of Rajbari district fled the scene
Raju is a son of Abdul Khaleq Khan of Chhoto Kolkolia village. Sources said, he is a notorious arms peddler of the region. He has been maintaining a network of illegal arms traders and criminals in Jessore, Benapole and Pabna. He has connection with outlawed organisations, they added.
Major Sabbir of Faridpur Rab-8 told this correspondent that following announcement of municipality election schedules, criminals and outlaws started gathering in the region of Rajbari. Raju and his two accomplices kept the arms in the house to sell them to outlaws and criminals, he said.
The recovered arms and ammunition and Raju were handed over to police.
A case was lodged with Pangsha police station in this connection.
