Four additional HC judges sworn in
Newly appointed four additional judges of the High Court (HC) were sworn in yesterday.
Chief Justice ABM Khairul Haque administered the oath at the Judges' Lounge of Supreme Court in the morning.
Judges of the Appellate Division and HC division were present at the oath taking ceremony that began at about 10:30am.
The new judges are Justice Bhabani Prashad Singh, Justice M Anwarul Haque, Justice Akram Hossain Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal.
After oath taking, Attorney General Mahbubey Alam and pro-Awami League lawyers felicitated the new judges at their benches.
The SC Bar Association led by pro-BNP lawyers did not greet the new judges since the government has not yet formulated specific rules regarding appointment of judges in the HC and Appellate Division.
President Zillur Rahman appointed the four additional HC judges on December 9 in accordance with Article 98 of the constitution.
Now the number of HC judges stands at 94.
