3.83-acre land to expand BSMMU
Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) received allotment of 3.83 acres of land adjacent to its premises yesterday to extend and modernise the country's lone medical university.
The government decided to lease the land to the university for 99 years as the university applied for the land adjacent to the northern part of the Cabin Block last month.
Deputy Collector (revenue) Abul Bashar Mohammad Fakhruzzaman formally handed over the land, under Ramna Police Station, on behalf of the deputy commissioner of Dhaka yesterday at 11:00am.
Later illegal establishments in that area were evicted in a drive by Executive Magistrate Mohammad Al Amin.
"The land will be used for building a minimum 1,500 bed hospital. A medical college for MBBS course and MD course will also be established here," said Vice Chancellor of BSMMU Prof Pran Gopal Datta.
There is another plan to set up a BSC nursing institute here, he told The Daily Star.
