An alleged criminal was killed in a 'shootout' with Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the capital's Gulshan area early yesterday.
Rab men recovered one pistol, three bullets and two mobile sets from the spot.
The identity of the dead, aged about 30, could not be known immediately.
Captain SM Shafiqur Rahman said a patrol team of Rab signalled two youths on a motorbike to halt at a check post near Gulshan Shooting Club around 1:20am yesterday.
Defying the signal, the youths opened fire on the Rab men, compelling them (Rab) to retaliate with bullets that left the co-rider bullet injured, he said.
The other youth, however, fled the scene on his motorbike, he added.
The injured youth was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where the duty doctor declared him dead around 2:30pm, said the captain.
His body was later shifted to DMCH morgue for an autopsy. Morgue sources said the body bore two bullet injuries at its head.
