Curbing corruption

In our country, corruption is the main obstacle against development, consolidation of democracy, social change, establishment of human rights and rule of law, and above all, fulfilling the dream of independence. The Awami League was committed to rooting out corruption. Amendment of the law made the Anti Corruption Commission ineffective. But thankfully, it was suspended after the TIB and other stakeholders protested.
The government should address the malaise seriously. Without showing any mercy or sympathy and staying above of all kinds of political consideration, the government should take steps to try the corrupt in a transparent way.
The administration has a significant role in eradicating corruption. Public administration needs honest, impartial, virtuous, transparent, and competent officials and employees. There is mismanagement, inefficiency, corruption and irregularities in the government institutions. There are no government institutions where files move easily and the government's decisions implemented quickly.
It is crucial to get rid of political interference in the recruitment and promotion process in the civil administration. Corrupt employees should be punished. To serve the people is the main duty of the administration. But, are the common people getting the required service from the administration?
The media can play a vital role in rooting out corruption. Freedom of the press is the main precondition in eradicating corruption. Access to information can ensure a culture of transparency. And without this anti-corruption campaign will not succeed.
Our expectation from the government and the political leadership is that they will take stern actions to curb corruption.
