Langolerhaat Bridge over the river Ghagot at Betgari under Gangachara upazila remains incomplete since 1998 impeding road communication from Gangachara to Nilphamari.
The foundation of the bridge was laid in late 1998 and one of the main pillars was also constructed.
The Divisional Engineer of Roads and Highways department of Rangpur Md. Shahidunnabi said, "Langolerhaat Bridge could not be completed in 1998 due to shortage of funds."
He added that authorities have sanctioned about Tk. 6.50 crore for the construction of the bridge and tender was given recently.
Shahidunnabi also said that the bridge would be completed by next year.
But people of Gangachara upazila still doubt if the construction work of bridge would begin at all.
Nurul Amin Shah, union parishad chairman of Betgari seemed to voice their opinion when he said, "This is an eyewash. We don't think the work on the bridge will begin at all."
