Robbers loot houses, bus
Robbers looted houses in Madaripur and Narsingdi on Monday and a bus in Rajshahi the day before.
Robbers stabbed a house owner and took away valuables worth Tk 12 lakh at Amirabad under municipality area of Madaripur district on Monday midnight, reports a correspondent.
Neighbours said, a gang wearing masks entered the house of Jalil Khandoker, a noted businessman of the area by breaking open the door of his house.
The criminals also stabbed Jalil with sharp weapons, leaving him seriously injured. Before committing robbery, the gang tied up the guard and took the family members hostage at gunpoint.
The robbers looted 35 tolas gold, Tk 1 lakh cash and four mobile sets from the house.
Injured Jalil is undergoing treatment at Barisal Medical College and Hospital.
In Narsingdi, another gang looted valuables worth Tk 10 lakh from a house at Shekher char in Sadar upazila on Monday night.
Locals said a gang of 8-10 armed robbers entered the house of Naimuddin breaking the collapsible gate at about 2:00am, reports UNB.
The robbers looted valuables including gold ornaments worth about Tk 10 lakh after stabbing Naimuddin's son Abdul Mannan alias Khokon as he tried to resist them.
Khokon was admitted to Narsingdi General Hospital.
A report from Rajshahi adds: Robbers looted valuables from a bus at Poketkhali Crossing in Puthia upazila Sunday night, leaving 15 Jatra (opera) artistes injured.
Police said robbers intercepted a bus, carrying Jatra artistes, by putting log on the road at Poketkhali Crossing.
The armed robbers then beat up the artistes and looted valuables including mobile phone sets, cash and gold ornaments worth Tk two lakh.
The injured were rushed to Puthia upazila health complex.
