Jealousy over marriage triggered Sharmin, one of the victims, to pour acid on her two cousins in a bid to stop the marriage and stage the attack that took place in the port city on October 2.
Sharmin Farzana Saki, 23, the reported culprit was shown arrested in the case after she confessed of her involvement in the incident during interrogation yesterday, said police.
Police also detained Sharmin's younger brother Ifteher Latif Sadi, 22, in this connection.
During interrogation, Sharmin confessed that she felt jealous of her younger cousin Muntaha since her marriage was fixed with a good family and she was prettier than her.
Muntaha was due to be married on October 10.
Investigation Officer (IO) of the case SI Md Aziz Ahmed of Panchlaish Police Station said Sharmin admitted that she threw some drops of acid on her own face in a bid to hide her involvement.
Mentionable, three young girls including two sisters Muntaha Karina alias Karin, 19 and Salsabil Taslim, 17, and their cousin Sharmin Farzana, 23, were injured as acid was thrown on them while they were sleeping at their residence at Joynagar in the port city.
