Sahara trashes reports on arrest move
Home Minister Sahara Khatun yesterday dismissed the rumour about government move to arrest BNP leader Salahuddin Quader Chowdhury as reported by a section of print and electronic media.
Responding to reporters' queries at the home ministry, she said police did not go to Chowdhury's residence in Chittagong Tuesday night.
IGP Hasan Mahmud Khandaker, who was also present there, echoed the home minister, saying that the news was baseless.
On Tuesday night, there was a strong rumour that plainclothes police took position in front of Chowdhury's Goods Hill residence to arrest him. Chowdhury himself admitted to different media about the presence of plainclothes police outside his house.
After the rumour spread, several hundred BNP activists gathered near Chowdhury's residence and chanted anti-government slogans.
