148 Pak MPs suspended
Pakistan's election commission says 148 lawmakers have been suspended for failing to disclose details of their wealth.
The lawmakers come from the national and regional assemblies, which together have more than 1,000 members.
Election commission spokesman Afzal Khan said yesterday those who submitted the required reports to the body would be reinstated.
Lawmakers must submit yearly reports of their wealth to try and prevent corruption, which is rife within Pakistani politics.
Khan was unable to give details on which parties the lawmakers came from because he was out of his office.
Prominent among those whose membership has been suspended include Minister for Labour Syed Khurshid Ahmad Shah, Education Minister Sardar Aseff Ahmed Ali, Tourism Minister Attaur Rahman, Minister of State for Information Sumsam Ali Bukhari, Chairman of the Special Committee of Parliament on Kashmir Maulana Fazlur Rahman and Kashmala Tariq, adds the Dawn.
