Candidates clash with cops, 20 hurt

Twenty people were injured in a clash between police and Army recruit candidates at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protishthan (BKSP) in Savar yesterday.
The clash ensued over employment in 13 divisions of Bangladesh Army under the players' quota.
Police and witnesses said some 214 candidates, who passed the selection test, were called to sit in final recruitment test yesterday at BKSP through advertisement in media.
However, several hundred more candidates, who failed preliminary tests, also came to sit for final test.
Angry youths, as they were not allowed to sit for final test, staged demonstrations in front of main gate of BKSP which was locked from inside for security as recruitment test was going on at 10:00 am.
The angry youths put barricade and blocked the road disrupting traffic movement for an hour. They also vandalised 10 to 12 passing vehicles.
At one stage, the protesters smashed an Army pick-up van and set fire to it in front of BKSP.
They hurled brickbats at police and BKSP security personnel who tried to chase them out of BKSP main gate. A fierce clash ensued and 20 on both sides were injured.
On information, Ashulia thana police, Army and RAB rushed to the spot and chased the protesting youths out of the area.
