Ershad killed Zia Says Nasim Osman

Jatiya Party lawmaker Nasim Osman has evoked a controversy with his remark that it was General (rtd) Ershad who killed ex-President Ziaur Rahman in 1981.
''Zia was killed by General Ershad, the then Army Chief, and not by former General Manzu,'' said Nasim while speaking as the chief guest at a reception programme at his constituency in Narayanganj yesterday.
The programme was held on Madanganj Model Govt Primary School premises yesterday to congratulate the meritorious students.
''Trial of killing of Bangabadhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was already done on May 30, 1981 through the killing of Zia. Because Zia was behind the killing of Bangabandhu,'' said Nasim casting a surprise on the audience.
Nasim who was elected member of the parliament (MP) from Narayanganj-5 explained his involvement in Jatiya Party. ''Do you know why I'm with Jatiya Party of Ershad? It's because the work I was to do was done by Ershad by killing Zia.''
Local Awami League leaders Mofizul Islam and Sanaullah Sanu also spoke at the function.
