BNP protests deaths in train accident
BNP Secretary General Khandaker Delwar Hossain yesterday said people have risen against the government's 'killing' and 'repression' of opposition activists.
Delwar was addressing a rally arranged at the city's Muktangoan in memories of ill-fated BNP supporters who died in a train accident in Sirajganj on Monday.
He said, ''This gathering proves that people have awoken against the killings and repression of opposition leaders and activists across the country by the government''.
Earlier, Delwar told a press conference at the Naya Paltan office that the train accident, which killed six people, in Sirajganj was premeditated.
The Dhaka-bound train started one hour late from Dinajpur and speedily passed through the rally, said the BNP leader questioning the train's delayed start.
He also wondered about Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's remarks that the killing of Baraigram Upazila chairman and BNP leader Sanaullah Noor Babu resulted from intra-BNP conflict while her party general secretary stated to arrest the killers by watching video footage.
''Such statement from the prime minister is unfortunate''. He suggested the prime minister to speak decently with restraint considering her own good and also the good for the country.
Today BNP will arrange protest rallies across the country including a mourning rally at Engineers' Institute in the city.
