Witnesses start giving deposition before Ctg special court

The special court will start trial proceedings against 93 BDR mutineers of 37 Rifles Battalion at Rajshahi battalion headquarters tomorrow.
Rajshahi BDR Sector Commander Col Md Aheya Azam Khan will chair the three-member court, said the 37 Rifles Battalion Commander Lt Col M Zahid Hasan who will act as prosecutor, according to our staff correspondent.
Other members of the court are Lt Col Gazi Khalid Hossain and Maj Towhidul Islam. A representative of the attorney general and a civil lawyer will be present during the trial proceedings.
Ninety-three members of 37 Rajshahi Rifles Battalion revolted against their officers in February 25 and 26 in 2009, expressing solidarity with the mutineers in BDR headquarters in Pilkhana.
The BDR members were arrested on May 18 after Ramjan Ali, the then officer-in-charge of Boalia Police Station, filed a case with Rajshahi CMM's Court against them the day before. The arrested BDR men are now in jail.
Our staff correspondent from Chittagong adds: The special court in Chittagong yesterday started taking deposition against 35 mutineers of 10 Rifles Battalion's Bolipara camp.
The special Court-16, set up at Rifles Training Centre and School at Baitul Izzat in Satkania, took deposition of three witnesses yesterday. They are plaintiff Subedar Sultan Ahmed, former battalion commander Lt Col Abdullah Ali Zayed and Lt Col Mosharraf Hossain.
The accused BDR men told the court that the witnesses were giving false information against them. At one stage, accused signalman Wahidur Rahman admitted to his guilt and sought apology to the court.
The court adjourned the proceedings until 9.30am today. On Sunday, the special court headed by Rangamati BDR Sector Commander Col Bashirul Islam framed charges 35 jawans of 10 Rifles Battalion's Bolipara camp for their involvement in 2009 BDR mutiny.
