Among the contemporary painters of Bangladesh, Laila Sharmeen has created an identity for herself. Her one-day solo painting exhibition was held at Excelsior Creek Hotel in Dubai on October 2. Bangladesh Ambassador to UAE, Nazmul Kawnain, inaugurated the exhibition.
Sharmeen did her Masters in Printmaking from the Institute of Fine Arts (now Faculty of Fine Arts, University of Dhaka). She has participated in 50 international group exhibitions and 11 solo exhibitions.
The Dubai exhibition showcased Sharmeen's mixed media paintings. Her works are rich, abstract images that according to the artist articulates beauty and truth. The paintings have a touch of lucidity and the elements appear to be in harmony. Spontaneous use of colours and nature inspired forms and shapes express the painter's moods and world. Sharmeen's choice of colours include various shades of white, grey, olive, black, chocolate, crimson and sapphire. Through her work, Sharmeen tries to explore nature, rhythm, music and poetry.
