Fire burns Ruet auditorium

Fire incinerated the entire interior of the central auditorium of Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology (Ruet) yesterday.
Almost everything including main stage, furniture, electronic equipments and lighting facilities of the 750-capacity auditorium were burnt to ashes in the fire. But no casualty was reported.
Two units of fire service rushed to the spot around 8:15am and took the fire under control after three and a half hours later, said Shamsuzzoha, an assistant director of Rajshahi Fire Service.
He could not tell any exact reason but suspected the fire might have originated from an electric short circuit.
We called for fire service around 8:00am when we found fumed smokes are coming out of the auditorium, said Yunus Ali, a security officer of Ruet.
Rashidul Hasan, chief engineer of Ruet, said the 750-capacity auditorium was built in the 80s when the institution was a college under Rajshahi University.
Ruet VC Sirajul Karim Chowdhury said they would form a probe committee in this regard.
