Two housing projects fail to get govt approval

The inter-ministerial committee on land development yesterday did not approve two projects of Building Development and Design Limited (BDDL) and Amin Mohammad Foundation Limited for not complying with land development codes.

The committee has turned down the developers' petition as they do not meet the main criteria, possessing 85 percent of total land of the project, Housing and Public Works Secretary ASM Rashidul Hye told journalists.
BDDL sought approval for a project at Natun Bazar in Badda while Amin Mohammad Foundation at Sabujbagh and Demra.

BDDL possesses hardly 1% of total project land while Amin Mohammad Foundation hardly 2 percent, sources at the meeting said.
The two projects do not meet land development criterion that makes it obligatory to have 30 percent land for hospital, school, playground and park, sources added.
Besides, they have not received no-objection certificates from the authorities concerned.
Sources said Rajuk has filed cases against 23 projects, including BDDL, for violating land development rules.
Housing secretary told journalists that a draft law for real estate business titled “Real Estate Act” has already been finalised that awaits the law ministry's vetting.
