Robbers stab 5, loot house
Robbers yesterday stabbed five and looted the house of a businessman in Sylhet while in another incident they drugged the house members before committing robbery in Manikganj.
In Sylhet, armed robbers stabbed five members of the house of a businessman and looted Tk two lakh. The incident took place in Lakhai upazila of Habiganj district early yesterday, reports our staff correspondent.
Locals caught one of the gang members while the others managed to escape with the booty, locals and police said.
Locals said, a gang of 10 to 12 attacked the house of cloth merchant Farhad Miah at village Badikkara and took away Tk 2 lakh from his almirah at gun point.
As the members of the house tried to resist, the robbers stabbed house owner Farhad Miah, his father Maraj Miah, 65, and three others, including the Farhad's mother-in-law.
Among them, condition of Farhad is stated to be critical.
Farhad was first taken to the Habiganj Sadar Hospital where from he was shifted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital yesterday afternoon.
However, the neighbours held on Tentu Miah while fleeing the scene and handed him over to the police.
Cloth merchant Farhad Miah kept the money at home to send his men to Narsingdi for buying cloth, family members said.
In Manikganj, a gang yesterday robbed 10 tolas of gold, a laptop, a VCD, two mobile sets, cash Tk 5,000 and Saudi riyal worth Tk 20,000 from a house at Ramchandrapur village under Daulapur upazila, reports our correspondent.
Before committing the robbery, the gang tactfully mixed drug with the food of the house members to make them unconscious.
House owner Fulchan Sheikh said he went out to attend an iftar programme on Tuesday afternoon and returned home at night.
By that time all the members of the house took meal and went to bed. When Fulchan called them to take sehri, nobody responded.
After sometime he found that robbers took away cash and valuables by cutting the tin-fence while his family members lying unconscious.
Victims Rizia Begum, 45, Kamal Sheikh, 35, Taslim Begum, 22, Mannan Sikder, 35, Farida Begum, 22, Al-Mamun, 7, were taken to Daulatpur Upazila Health Complex in the morning.
Dr. Abdul Kuddus said they took drug mixed food.
