20 shops gutted, 10 hurt in N'ganj market fire

At least 20 wholesale cloths shops were gutted and 10 people injured in a devastating fire at Sher-e-Bangla Katakapor market at Deobhog in the town yesterday evening.
On information, five units from Mondalpara, Haziganj and Narayanganj rushed to the spot and doused the flame after one and a half hours.
Witnesses said around 3:00pm, the fire originated from an electric-short circuit in Jonaki Store and soon engulfed the adjacent shops of the market.
The extent of loss in the fire was estimated by the shop owners at Tk 1 crore.
Deputy Director Ahsanul Kabir of Narayanganj Fire Service and Civil Defense said the fire originated from an electric short-circuit while the market authorities was trying to start the generator during the load-shedding.
The injured were given treatment at Narayanganj hospital.
