RMG workers block road over Aug 15 holiday

Vehicular movement on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway was disrupted for half an hour yesterday as agitating garment workers put up blockades on the road at Mulaid MC bazar of Sripur upazila.
They also vandalised five vehicles.
Quoting witnesses police said workers of Hashim Sweater Factory started protesting at 08:00am demanding August 15 as public holiday, said Nazmul Haque, officer-in-charge of Sripur Police Station.
On information police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
The workers, however, withdrew their agitation after the authorities announced a holiday.
In another incident, workers of Dayna Composite started their protest at 08:00am demanding their salary of July.
The agitating workers withdrew their protest after the authorities assured them of paying due salary and joined their duty.
