Gas leak erupts in flames

Fire broke out from a leak in a gas pipe on Dhaka-Tangail highway near Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP), stopping traffic there for about 20 minutes yesterday morning.
Local people said gas was leaking from several places on the busy road since morning.
The fire might have been ignited from the glowing stub of a discarded cigarette at around 9:45pm said Akhtaruzzaman, station officer of Dhaka EPZ fire service.
On information, fire fighters from Dhaka EPZ doused the flames within a few minutes, he added.
Akhtaruzzaman said around 150 metre of underground pipeline might have leaked at different places due to heavy pressure of vehicles above.
