Speedy trial of war criminals demanded
Bangladesh Muktijoddha Sangsad Central Command Council Chairman Helal Morshed Khan yesterday said the ongoing trial against war criminals should be completed as early as possible to free the country from stigma.
"War criminals are the enemies of the country as they worked against the country's independence in 1971," he said while addressing a gathering of elected district unit representatives of the organisation at district Shilpakala auditorium.
"We were demanding the trial of these culprits for a long time and at last, the trial process will be a milestone in the history of the country," he added.
He urged the freedom fighters to create mass awareness in their respective areas to support the government in holding the trial.
The leaders also thanked Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for holding the election in a democratic way after 39 years of independence.
They also urged the freedom fighters to strengthen unity among themselves to uphold the spirit of the War of Liberation.
Around 700 freedom fighters from greater Mymensingh attended the meeting.
Lawmaker M Amanullah, Central Vice-President Muktijoddha Sangsad Habibullah Khan, Secretary Emdad Hossain Matin, Tangail district commander Md Fazlul Haque, Jamalpur district commander Md Shafiqul Islam, Netrakona district commander Nurul Amin, Sherpur district commander Liakat Ali, Kishoreganj district commander Md Asadullah and Mymensingh district commander Md Nazim Ahmed also addressed the meeting.
