Framing of charges deferred again
The Speedy Trial Tribunal, Khulna, yesterday again deferred charge-framing against 47 Jamaat and Shibir men in a case filed under the Speedy Trial Act.
Judge Abu Shamim Azad of the Speedy Trial Tribunal yesterday deferred charge framing against the Jamaat and Shibir men, including city Ameer and former lawmaker Mian Golam Parwar, to August 8 as 16 of the accused are still at large.
Earlier, the court fixed July 19 for framing charges. But the date was deferred to July 25 and again on August 1 for the same reason. The judge asked the law enforcers to arrested the accused and produced them in the tribunal on August 8.
Sub-Inspector Rezaul Karim filed two separate cases with Sadar Police Station on June 30 accusing 21 leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir of attacking law enforcers during a protest rally at Dakbungalow Square in the city the same day.
One case was recorded under the Speedy Trial Act while the other under sections 307 and 334 of Bangladesh Penal Code.
Khulna Jamaat and Shibir units organised the rally protesting arrest of three top Jamaat leaders.
Officer-in-Charge of Khulna Sadar Police Station Munirul Gias and four other policemen were injured in the attack. OC Munirul was under treatment at KMCH for three weeks as he sustained head injury.
Apart from 21 accused in the FIR, 26 more leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir were later included in the charge sheet. SI Monirul Islam, who investigated the case, submitted charge sheet to the court on July 12.
