Politician and generals
On 21st. July I was a bit pleasantly surprised seeing SBA'S very well written article captioned "Politicians and generals--". Usually we know that our newspaper editors don't feel comfortable to publish these sorts of topics!!! SBA is very correct in his observations. But I would like to add a bit that the Bhuttos in Pakistan were the civil faces of the military.
In Bangladesh the military rulers preferred the Ayub Khan model and created some civil faces! In other countries as were mentioned in that article, probably after having independence these countries nourished their armed forces more than other forces or segments of the country. Good governance by civilian governments is the basic thing to deter the army from any ambitious ventures! It is for sure that Bangladesh's economy and social development indexes have risen during democratic rule from 1991, in spite of all the "BAD THINGS"of democracy! It nosedived again during the last "army backed CTG's " reign.
Thanks for publishing such an item which demands soul searching from many!
