6 women killed in 4 dists
Six women including a mother and a daughter have been murdered by criminals in four districts.
In Natore, criminals killed a mother and her daughter early yesterday at Sonapur village of Bagatipara upazila, reports a correspondent.
The deceased were identified as Motijan Begum, 42, and Sheuli Akhtar Shelly, 17.
Locals said divorcee Motijan was living with her daughter in an isolated area of the village. She used to lend money.
Police suspected that Motijan and her daughter might have been killed due to a dispute involving her business.
Mirza Abdus Salam, officer-in-charge of Bagatipara police station, claimed Motijan operated the business with one Hossain Ali of the same village.
Police arrested Hossain Ali on suspicion from Sonapur bazar in this connection.
In Shariatpur, two women were beaten to death allegedly by a member of the same family at Pachalia village in Bhedorganj upazila on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Moneka Rani Bala, 65, and Archana Rani, 25, of the village, reports UNB.
Locals said, following a family feud Gobinda Kabiraj beat his aunt Moneka Rani to death at about 10:30am while she was working on the courtyard of the house. He also beat his son's wife Archana Rani to death when she tried to save Moneka.
Later, locals caught Gobinda and handed him over to police.
In Netrakona, a pregnant woman was killed at Borikandi village under Madan upazila on Tuesday night, reports our correspondent.
Victim Shahnaz Begum, 23, was wife of Chali Mia.
Police and locals said, Chali Mia is in Qatar for the last two years as he is employed there.
In absence of her husband, one Liton Bangali of nearby Chandgaw village and Shahnaz involved in an illicit affair. As a result Shahnaz became pregnant.
Sources said, Liton took Shahnaz to Mymensingh in the morning and killed her there. Later he sent the body to her village home by a private ambulance at night.
Shahnaz was daughter of Shamsul Haque of Matikata village under Atpara upazila in Netrakona district. Shamsul Haque filed a case with Atpara police station in this connection.
In Thakurgaon, police recovered the body of an elderly woman on Sunday afternoon from the Nagore River at Dheurjhari village under Baliadangi upazila, reports our correspondent.
Officer-in-charge (OC) of Baliadangi police station Golam Sarwar Bhuiyan told this correspondent over cell phone that locals saw the body of the elderly woman, aged about 70, floating in the river at about 12:30pm.
On information, police went to the spot and recovered the body at about 5:00pm.
