Indian khasias again cross border, try to lift cows
An Indian khasia, who along with nine others intruded into Bangladesh territory through Jaintapur border yesterday afternoon and tried to take away about 40 cows, was caught by locals and later handed over to BDR.
The arrestee, Dini Khasia, 24, hails from Ronghongkong in the Indian state of Meghalaya, BDR sources said.
Meanwhile, the BDR Director General on Tuesday visited Tin Bigha corridor under Patgram upazila of Lalmonirhat district and discussed border problems with the Inspector General (IG) of BSF Shiliguri region.
Our Sylhet correspondent quoted BDR sources as saying that ten Indians, armed with lethal weapons, entered Bangladesh territory through Jaintapur border at around 1:30pm.
When they were taking away the cows grazing about 100 yards inside from the zero line, locals chased them and caught one of the intruders named Dini Khasia while the others managed to flee.
Locals immediately handed him over to Sripur BDR camp. At around 5:00pm, BDR handed over the Indian to Sripur police. A case was filed with the police station against Dini Khasia on charge of illegal entry into Bangladesh.
Locals alleged that armed Indians had taken away more than 50 cows from Sripur and Jaintapur border areas in the last 21 days from July 5.
In Lalmonirhat, BDR Director Genera (DG) Major General Md Rafiqul Islam visited Tin Bigha corridor at around 12:30pm on Tuesday.
BSF Shiliguri region Inspector General (IG) Nandon Kishor received the BDR chief at Tin Bigha corridor. They discussed smuggling and other border issues during an hour-long meeting from 1:00pm, reports a correspondent.
Talking to journalists, BDR DG said the border guards of the two countries are trying to maintain peace on border. Joint initiative is a must to check cross-border crimes, he added.
He said a friendly football match between BDR and BSF will be held in India's Changra Bandha area soon.
