Land dispute: 3 killed, 30 injured in 4 districts
At least three people were killed and 30 others injured in clashes over disputed lands in four districts yesterday.
In Panchagarh, one person was killed and seven others were injured in a clash at Jaigirjoth village under Tentulia upazila over control of a piece of disputed land, reports our Thakurgaon correspondent.
Officer in Charge (OC) of Tentulia police station Abu Bakkar Siddik told this correspondent that at about 7:30am yesterday Tomizuddin and other 8/10 people including his brothers were planting aman saplings in a field at the same village.
All of a sudden Zakir Hossain of the same village along with 25/30 hired musclemen attacked them for taking control of the land leaving Auhidul Haque, 30, son of late Bishu Mohammad dead on the spot and seven others injured.
Injured Tamizuddin, 35, Shirajul Islam, 45, Saidur Rahaman, 40, Hamida Begum, 40, Shahina Khatun, 25, Tahera Khatun, 34 and Shujan, 40 were admitted to Tentuilia health complex.
In Netrakona, one person was killed and 10 others were injured as rivals clashed at Kawalikanda village under Kendua upazila yesterday morning over land dispute.
The dead was identified as Sona Mia, 19, son of Abdul Hye of the village, reports our correspondent.
Police and locals said, there was a longslanding conflict between Abdul Hye and Abdur Rashid over a piece of land.
Yesterday morning, about 50 to 60 people including Rashid attacked the house of Hye with sharp and lethal weapons. During the clash Sona Mia was killed on the spot and 10 others of both groups were injured.
Seriously injured Selim and Habi Akther were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital in critical condition. Others were admitted to Kendua upazila health complex.
In Dinajpur, an elderly person was murdered and six others were wounded as villagers locked in clashes after a man drove power tiller across a disputed land.
The incident took place at Palsha village of Ghoraghat upazila, reports our correspondent.
Victim Motiar Rahman, 45, died at Rangpur Medical College and Hospital in the evening.
Police said, Dilbar Rahman, 24, son of Saidur Rahman of the village went out to plough his cropland. To reach the spot, he drove his power tiller through the disputed land.
Later, Motaz Ali and his son attacked Dilbar and wounded him badly. After a while the villagers divided into two groups over the incident and attacked each other with sharp weapons leaving at least seven people injured.
Of them, Motiar died at Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
In Benapole, Jessore, at least seven people were injured in a clash between two rival groups over land dispute at Dighirpar village yesterday morning, reports a correspondent.
The injured are Ashanur Rahman, 25, son of Nazrul Islam, Al Amin, 24, son of Babar Ali, Maleka Begum, 60, wife of Abdus Sattar, their sons Hafizur Rahman, 26, and Mofizur Rahman, 26, Bulbul, 30, son of Habibur Rahman, and Babar Ali, 45, son of Kudrat.
Witnesses said an altercation took place in the morning when Ashanur Rahman along with his men went to his maternal uncle Babar Ali's house to take possession of a disputed land.
Later, their supporters equipped with lethal weapons and sticks attacked each other, leaving seven people injured from both sides.
