Charge framing against 47 Jamaat, Shibir men deferred again
Charges against 47 Jamaat and Shibir men could not be framed here yesterday as police could not arrest most of the accused.
The Speedy Trial Tribunal here again deferred the charge framing date to August 1 as 24 charge sheeted accused are still at large, court sources said.
Earlier on July 19, the court fixed July 25 for framing charges against the accused after rejecting their bail prayers.
SI Monirul Islam of Khulna Sadar police station who investigated the case submitted the charge sheet to the court of CMM on July 12 accusing 47 leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir of attacking law enforcers at Dakbunglow square during a demonstration on June 30 this year.
SI Rezaul Karim lodged an FIR with Khulna Sadar police station on June 30 as complainant naming 21 leaders and activists of Jamaat and Shibir as accused. The complaint included 26 other unidentified accused.
The FIR was later recorded as a regular case under sections 4 and 5 of the Speedy Trial Act. The 47 charge sheeted accused include Khulna city Ameer of Jamaat and former lawmaker Mian Golam Parwar.
Police also arrested two top charge sheeted leaders of Chhatra Shibir from Dhaka and Bagerhat. They are Mian Mujahidul Islam, former president of Khulna city unit of Shibir. He was arrested on July 13 from Ibne Sina Welfare Hospital at Kalyanpur in the capital. He is younger brother of Mian Golam Parwar.
On the same day, police arrested another charge sheeted top leader of Chhatra Shibir Md Ariful Islam from his house at Kachua upazila of Bagerhat district. The arrestee is also chairman of governing body of Khulna Siddikia Kamil Madrassa.
