Dockers call off strike after sit-in
The dockers of Chittagong Port postponed their 10-day long agitation programme following a meeting with the Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) yesterday evening.
Emerging from the meeting, Golam Mohammad, president of Awami League-backed Dock Bandar Sramik Karmachari Federation said, “We postponed the programme as the CPA assured us of issuing identity cards to the workers from today [yesterday]. They also promised to implement decisions taken in previous meetings.”
CPA Secretary Syed Farhad Uddin Ahmed however said, “We agreed to start issuing identity cards from tomorrow [today].”
Other decisions, particularly those taken in the meeting between the CPA and the federation on July 1, would also be implemented gradually, he added.
