Aila-hit families in Koira to get aid tomorrow
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will disburse cheques for Tk 54.80 crore as house building grant among 27,400 Aila-hit families of Koira upazila tomorrow.
The six-member disaster management committee of the upazila made a list of the affected families under supervision of Bangladesh Army, said Deputy Commissioner of Khulna Jamsher Ahmad Khandokar yesterday.
According to Khulna regional office of the Press Information Department (PID), the prime minister will inaugurate the programme for disbursing cheques at Amadi Jaigirmahal College ground under Koira uapzila at 3:00pm.
District administration sources said Tk 76 crore allocated by the government has been sent to the local branches of Sonali, Agrani, Rupali and Krishi banks for disbursement among 38,000 Aila affected families of Koira and Dakope upazilas for construction of their houses.
Each of the 27,400 listed families of Koira and 10,600 families of Dakope upazilas will be able to withdraw Tk 20,000 until July 31 by opening a bank account with Tk 10 (ten) only.
The sources confirmed that 35,000 accounts have so far been opened with the local branches of Sonali, Agrani, Krishi and Rupali banks in the two upazilas.
The final lists of 38,000 Aila affected families of Koira and Dakope upazilas were made by the six-member committee. The committee was formed on June 20 comprising an army officer, UNO, a first class magistrate, office-in-charge of the police station, a UP chairman and Project Implementation Officer of the upazila concerned.
Members of the committee of the two upazilas made the final lists after carrying out thorough investigation at the field level from June 24 to July 2 to include the affected families who can really deserve the house building grant from the government.
The committee comprising an army officer had to be formed following allegations of politicisation, irregularities and corruption in making the previous list of 42,000 families in March this year, said a source in Khulna district administration.
