Govt to purchase 1.1 lakh MT rice, wheat
The cabinet committee on purchase yesterday approved a proposal to buy 1.1 lakh tonnes rice and wheat to increase food stock.
A meeting of the committee with Planning Minister AK Khandaker in the chair also approved procurement of 1.5 lakh tonnes of urea fertiliser.
The government will buy 60,000 tonnes of rice and 50,000 tonnes of wheat, meeting sources said.
The price of 30,000 tonnes of rice is $473 per tonne. Another 30,000 tonnes of rice will be procured at the rate of $470 per tonne. The price of wheat is $219 per tonne.
