Labour handling to be under porter management

The government is determined to cancel the leasing system on labour handling at the Sadarghat Launch Terminal as it will be operated under the management of porters from July 1 under the 'wages for labour' policy.
It was decided at a meeting between the Shipping Minister Shahjahan Khan and representatives of different labour organisations working at the terminal held at the BIWTA Bhaban in Sadarghat.
The meeting discussed stopping passenger harassment at the terminal, increasing facilities available to the passengers and registration of the porters.
During the meeting, the shipping minister sought all-out cooperation from the labour organisations to support the government's initiatives to cancel the leasing system.
The shipping minister decided to cancel the leasing system on labour handling at the Sadarghat Terminal in consultation with Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to check harassment of passengers.
Shipping Ministry Secretary Abdul Mannan Hawlader and BIWTA Chairman Abdul Malek Mia were present at the meeting.
