Jessore doctors call off strike
Doctors at Jessore General Hospital withdrew their indefinite strike after a fruitful meeting with local political leaders and administration officials held in the conference room of the deputy commissioner yesterday.
The doctors went on an indefinite strike on June 17 protesting assault on one of their colleagues by the relatives of a patient who died at the hospital on the night of June 16 due to alleged neglect of the doctor. Two separate cases were filed with Sadar Police Station after the incident.
At the meeting yesterday, both sides agreed to withdraw the cases. It was also decided that additional police will be deployed at the hospital to ensure security of the doctors.
Khalidur Rahman Tito, lawmaker from Jessore-3 constituency, Shaheen Chaklader, general secretary of district Awami League, Deputy Commissioner Nurul Amin, Police Superintendent Dedar Ahmad, Civil Surgeon Dr Salauddin Khan, Superintanent of Jessore General Hospital Dr Salauddin Ahmed, Dr Atiqur Rahman, Dr Kamrul Hasan Benu, Jessore Press Club President Ekram-ud-Dowla, General Secretary Ahsan Kabir Babu, and Mizanur Rahman Tota were present in the meeting.
