Govt discloses another list

The government yesterday came up with a new list of 1,612 non-government educational institutions for monthly payment order (MPO) facilities.
The education ministry finalised the list of schools, colleges, technical institutions and madrasas after revising a list of 1,483 institutions previously announced by prime minister's Education Adviser Alauddin Ahmed on May 31.
The list was posted on the ministry's website (www.moedu.gov.bd) yesterday.
Earlier on May 6, the government listed 1,022 educational institutions, but the list was cancelled following the lawmakers' discontent with it.
On the new list made for the third time, around 190 institutions have been included and names of 61 institutions have been dropped from the second list, according to a government announcement.
Meanwhile, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday in parliament declared that the government has finalised the list.
Of the names newly added on the list, the number of junior schools is 49 while secondary schools 41, school and college 8, intermediate colleges 28, degree colleges 7, Dakhil madrasas 22, Alim madrasas 4, Fazil madrasas 2, institutes for business management (HSC) 22 and vocational institutes (SSC) 7.
Of the institutions dropped, 20 are junior schools while 9 secondary schools, 1 intermediate college, 12 Dakhil madrasas, 3 Alim madrasas, 6 instututes for business management (HSC) and 10 vocational institutes (SSC), says the government announcement.
Earlier, the education minister in parliament on the proposed budget for 2010-11 fiscal year said the process of MPO listing remained suspended for 10 years, and around 10,000 educational institutions were waiting to be brought under the facility.
Of the institutions, 7,000 were registered with the government, he added.
Hoping that the new list would be acceptable to all, the minister said the process of the MPO listing will continue.
He also urged teachers and employees of the institutions, which are not on the list, not to be disappointed, as the institutions will eventually come under the facility in the future.
Though there is no separate allocation for the MPO in the next fiscal year, the education ministry itself would allocate money for it, Nahid mentioned.
