Two people to die for killing wives in Narail and Bogra while another person has been held for same offence in Tangail.
A court in Narail on Tuesday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2008, according to a correspondent.
Convict Jasimuddin Molla is son of Tabibor Rahman Molla of Bashgram village in Sadar upazila.
According to the prosecution, Jasimuddin used to quarrel with his wife Nilufa Begum, 38, an NGO worker and daughter of Mohammad Idris of the same village, suspecting her extra-marital affair with a man.
On the fateful night on September 13, 2008, he picked up a quarrel with Nilufa over the issue and at one stage hit her with an axe.
Nilufa died on the spot and Jasimuddin fled away.
A case was filed and police after three months arrested Jasim from Satkhira district.
After examining the records and 12 witnesses District and Sessions Judge Mohammed Nazrul Islam pronounced the verdict at around 11:00am.
A Bogra court on Monday sentenced a man to death and fined him Tk 20,000 for killing his wife in 2006.
The convict was identified as Shukur Ali, 35, reports our Bogra correspondent.
According to the prosecution, Shukur Ali strangled his second wife Mohuba, 30, and looted her ornaments in Dhupchachia upazila of the district on June 8, 2006.
The then officer-in-charge (OC) of Dhupchachia police station Wahidur Rahman filed a case in this connection.
Nitai Chandra Saha, Additional District Judge-3 of Bogra, pronounced the verdict.
Police in Tangail arrested a man on Saturday from Ghatail upazila on charge of killing his wife for dowry.
The arrestee was identified as Mohammad Nasiruddin, 25, of Chaithdra village under Sandhanpur union in the upazila, reports our correspondent.
Sources said, RMG worker Nasiruddin married Dipu Khatun, 19, daughter of Saudi expatriate Belal Hossain of Monipur village in the same upazila about 11 months ago. After some days of marriage, Nasir started to press Dipu to bring dowry from her father, family sources said.
The couple used to quarrel on the matter on and often, they said.
On Saturday morning, locals saw Dipu's body floating in a pond adjacent to their house and informed police.
Being informed, a team from Ghatail police station rushed to the spot and recovered the body and sent it to Tangail General Hospital morgue for autopsy.
They also arrested Nasir's younger brother Aminur Rahman, 20, in this connection.
Mominur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Ghatail police station said they suspect that Nasir, with the help of others, might have killed Dipu for refusing to bring dowry.
Victim's uncle Nurul Islam filed a case on Saturday with the police station accusing three people.
