Nirmul body int'l confce June 20
Ekattorer Ghatak Dalal Nirmul Committee will hold an international conference on June 20 to rally international support for the trial of war criminals.
The sixth national council of the committee will also be held on June 18 and 19 where a new executive committee will be elected, Prof Kabir Chowdhury, president of the advisory council of the committee, said at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity auditorium.
The committee, a forum for secular Bangladesh and trial of war criminals of 1971, will hold the council also to press its demand for the restoration of the basic principles of the 1972 constitution.
Representatives from ten countries, including Canada, the USA, the UK, Sweden, Netherlands, Russia, Iran, Pakistan, India and Nepal, will attend the international conference.
At the press conference, Prof Chowdhury said no plan of the government would be successful unless fanaticism is eliminated from the country.
The four basic principles of the 1972 constitution should be restored to stamp out fanaticism, he added.
He also said that the government has all the information about the financial sources of the fundamentalists, but no action has yet been taken against them.
Prof Muntasir Mamun said a quarter has been carrying out a propaganda campaign against the trial of war criminals, but the foreign ministry has not taken any measures to counteract the propaganda.
Justice Gholam Rabbani and Ferdousi Priyabhashini were also present at the press conference.
