Road crashes kill five
At least five people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Tangail, Bagerhat, Sherpur and Dinajpur yesterday.
Our correspondent from Tangail adds: Two people, including a rickshawpuller, were killed in a road accident in Tangail town on Monday night.
Mehedi Hasan, second officer of Tangail police station, said the accident took place at around 10:00pm when a passenger bus of Jhatika Paribahan crushed a rickshaw under its wheels on Mymensingh Road in the town, leaving rickshawpuller Shajahan Miah, 45, of Sadar upazila dead on the spot and a passenger injured seriously.
The injured rickshaw passenger Farhad Ali, 28, of Madhupur upazila succumbed to his injuries in the Tangail General Hospital the same night.
A correspondent from Bagerhatreports: A seven-year-old girl was crushed under the wheels of a passenger bus at Gajalia bus stand under Kachua upazila in the district.
The victim was identified as Sadia Akter, daughter of Siddikur Rahman of Gajalia village of Kachua upazila and a student of class one of a local school.
UNB from Sherpur says: A retired school teacher was killed and six others were injured in a road accident at Majhpara in Sadar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Fazlur Rahman alias Fazu, 65, a retired teacher of Kamarer Char Government Primary School.
Police said the accident took place at about 11:00am when two 'bhotbhoti' (human haulers) collided, leaving seven people, including Fazu, injured.
Fazu succumbed to his injuries on the way to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital.
A report from Dinajpur adds: A minor boy was killed and four others were injured as a tractor hit them at Shibnagar village in Fulbari upazila yesterday.
The injured were admitted to upazila health complex.
Of the injured, Paresh Chandra, 8, son of Nibash Chandra of Ghatpara village in same upazila, succumbed to his injuries on the way to hospital.
