Tree felling triggers protest at JU
Authorities of Jahangirnagar University (JU) stopped the felling of trees in the campus in face of teachers' protest on Thursday.
Sources said the authorities started cutting down 32 trees from the campus during the summer vacation of the university.
Protesting the tree felling, JU teachers under the banner “Conscious Teachers of JU”, observed a sit-in programme at the main entrance of Amar Ekushey Sculpture intersection.
Terming such tree felling as illegal, the teachers demanded of the authorities concerned to stop it.
Dr Shamsul Alam Selim, Prof Mozammel Haque, Rihan Rain, Jamal Uddin Runu, among others, took part in the sit-in programme.
