Three housewives murdered over dowry, land dispute
Three housewives were murdered over dowry, land dispute in Satkhira, Sunamgonj and Patuakhali districts on Monday and the day before.
A woman was beaten to death allegedly by her husband at village Madanpur in Kalaroa upazila for dowry on Sunday night, reports our Satkhira correspondent.
The victim was identified as Marzina Khatun, 24, wife of Shahidul Islam of the village.
Quoting locals police said, Shahidul Islam, son of Joynuddin Dalal of the village took Marzina as his second wife about five years ago. Shahidul received a dowry of Tk. 40,000 at the time of marriage. Recently he demanded more money for the victim's parent to buy a motorbike. As Marzina could not pay the amount, he used to torture her off and on, police sources said.
On the fateful day, Shahidul beat her mercilessly as she refused to go to her parent's house to bring the money.
At one stage Marzina died and the killer husband fled the scene. Police recovered the body with marks of injuries and sent it to Satkhira morgue for postmortem.
In Sunamgonj, a housewife was strangulated to death allegedly by her husband at Amtoil village in Tahirpur upazila early Monday, reports UNB.
The victim was identified as Rubia Khatun, 29, daughter of Eakub Ali, of the village.
Police said M Latib, strangled his pregnant wife to death and left the body on the bank of Maram river.
Locals found the body, caught Latib and informed police in the morning. Police arrested Latib and a case was filed.
Our correspondent in Patuakhali reports: A housewife was murdered in her sleep on Sunday night allegedly over a land dispute at Paschim Auliapur village.
The victim was identified as Joynab Begum, 50, wife of Khalilur Rahman of the village.
Khalil is now in jail as he was convicted for 32 years in a murder case.
Police said, Joynab and her mother-in-law Jamili Bibi, 90, who is blind and dumb, were sleeping in her house. In the dead of night assailants chopped her to death by sharp weapons and fled away.
Rashida, daughter of the victim came on the spot on hearing the news of murder and informed police.
She also filed a case with Patuakhali police station.
