Ratna's wedding at Gonobhaban tomorrow
Sakina Aktar Ratna's marriage will be held tomorrow at Gonobhaban while the marriage date of her younger sister Runa will be fixed after her groom's elder brother returns from abroad, said Prime Minister's Office sources.
Ratna's gaye halud (a wedding ritual) will be held today, Deena Huq, director general of the PMO, told The Daily Star late last night.
Ratna's marriage was scheduled for June 22.
The two girls lost their mother, who had been their only living parent, Thursday night in the Nimtoli inferno along with other family members and relatives.
The PMO sources said the decision was made when both Ratna and Runa, along with their grooms, family members and close relatives met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Gonobhaban last night.
"The family members of Ratna and her groom Saidur Rahman Suman agreed to their wedding on Wednesday afternoon at Gonobhaban," the PMO director general said, adding, "The family members and relatives of Runa's groom Jamil have also agreed to their marriage.
"But they want to finalise everything as well as the wedding date after 40 days of the fire incident."
Seeking anonymity, a relative of Jamil told The Daily Star that they want more time. He said Jamil, if necessary, would sign a bond that he would marry Runa but at this time they are not prepared for such a function.
Sources said it was heart breaking when the two young girls burst into tears embracing Sheikh Hasina at Gonobhaban. They said Hasina consoled them.
Hasina will act as the guardian of the girls during their marriage ceremonies, PMO sources said.
Deena Huq said since Suman has a master's degree, the prime minister decided to ensure a job for him and meet the expenditure of the marriage ceremony from the PM's Relief Fund.
Deena Huq will be taking care of the marriage ceremony arrangements of Ratna while MA Aziz, acting president of city Awami League, will take care of the arrangements for groom Suman.
The girls lost their mother, two aunts, four cousins and a nephew while Runa's groom Jamil lost his mother, brother, a nephew, two aunts and five other relatives during Thursday nights Nimtoli fire. They were all at Runa and Ratna's home for the engagement ceremony of Jamil and Runa.
Ratna's groom Suman lost one of his cousins who went to join the engagement function of Runa and Jamil.
