Fair probe demanded
Hundreds of people from all strata yesterday formed a human chain in the city demanding a fair investigation into the Nimtoli fire and immediate punishment to the persons responsible for the fire.
Acid Survivors Foundation, a human rights organisation, organised the human chain in front of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital in the morning.
During the human chain program, speakers said use of acid and chemical in the country has been increasing day by day because of non-implementation of the Acid Control Act 2002 and casualties caused by acid is also increasing gradually.
Recalling the Borichang incident of Comilla that occurred in November 6 in 2008, they said at least 18 people were killed by acid in a road mishap due to unsafe carrying of acid and government did not take any steps to stop unsafe use and carrying of acid and other dangerous chemical.
They also urged the government to take measures for creating awareness among the people to reduce risky use of acid and chemical.
