Police foil Jamaat programme
Police prevented Jamaat men from bringing out a procession in the district town yesterday morning.
Local Jamaat sources said police clubbed their activists at Mujib Sarak in the town, injuring Shamim Ataher, Faruk Hossain, Mohsin Mia and Tofazzel Hossain Topu. The injured took first aid at Faridpur Islami Bank Hospital, sources added.
Shamsul Islam Barati, secretary general of Jamat Faridpur district unit, said police foiled their bid to bring out a procession in the town as part of the party's countrywide protest programme.
Jamaat announced the programme on May 31, as it could not hold its rally at Paltan Maidan in the capital on the day due to restrictions imposed by the DMP.
