Walk to end hunger today
As part of its campaign to end hunger, the World Food Programme (WFP) will organise a walk today in the city.
The walk will be held to raise awareness and money to feed hungry school children in some of the poorest countries.
Starting in front of the IDB Bhaban at 10:30am, it will end at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre via the Chandrima Udyan at Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury will inaugurate the walk, which is taking place for the eighth year with the slogan 'End Hunger: Walk the World'.
It happens in 24 hours across all 24 time zones, beginning in Australia and ending in Samoa. Thousands of people in 70 countries will take to the streets.
"Hunger and malnutrition are the biggest threats to global health worldwide. In the developing world, one in every three child deaths under five are linked to under nutrition," said John Aylieff, WFP Bangladesh representative.
"WFP and its partners are passionate about taking action on this important issue and believe that everyone can help by joining Walk the World in Bangladesh to take a first step towards ending hunger," he added.
