Musical soiree at Chhayanaut
Geeti Shotra, a musical troupe of the city, performed in a musical soiree titled “Mon-e Rekho Mor Gaan” at the main auditorium of Chhayanaut on June 4.
Artistes of the organisation, Ahona, Wriddha, Pallab, Shubho, Tanwee and others, kicked off the event with a choral number “Phirey chalo apon gharey”, originally recorded by Krishna Chandra Dey.
Guest artistes, including several teachers of Chhayanaut, Iffat Ara Dewan, Sumon Chowdhury, Priyanka Gope, Mansura Begum, Partha Tanvir Noved, Sharmin Shathi Islam, Alpona Chakraborti, Saifullah Parvez, Sanjoy Roy, Shawkat Hossain, Musarrat Jarrin Mishu and Ripon Mandol, performed 20 songs of yesteryears at the event.
“Ami jagoter kachhey” ,“Chhandey chhandey nachey” ,“Malakhani chhilo hatey” ,“Piyashi bhangiley je” ,“Ekhoni uthibey chand” ,“Chand kohey chameli”, “Hridoy kaharey jeno” ,“Eshechhi madhu jamini” ,“Jakhon rabo na ami” ,“ Jegey achhi eka” ,“Jiboney jarey kabhu dao ni mala” and “Rater mayur chharalo je pakha” were amongst the solo numbers by the artistes.
One of the founders of Chhayanaut, Waheedul Haque, once wrote, “After the demise of Pancha Kobi, a number of lyricists, composers and singers enriched the trend of Bengali song that we term adhunik song.”
Enamul Haque Omar and Mrityunjoy Majumdar on tabla, Almas Ali on violin, Iftekhar Hossain Sohel on keyboard, assisted the singers.
The programme ended with the rendition of the National Anthem.
Prior to the rendition, President of the organisation, Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam and theatre personality Biplob Bala spoke on the occasion.
