Ghost of 1/11 sitting on govt's shoulder
Barrister Rafique-ul Huq, a counsel for both Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament Khaleda Zia, yesterday said the ghost of one-eleven is now sitting on the shoulder of the present government.
The government's action to arrest the daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman and cancel the declaration of the daily has proved that it (government) has not learnt any lesson from the one-eleven, he said.
He said this while addressing as the chief guest a meeting in protest against the arrest of Mahmudur Rahman, and cancellation of the declaration of the daily Amar Desh.
Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum, an organisation of the pro-BNP lawyers, organised the meeting at south hall of the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) with Barrister Aminul Haque in the chair.
Rafique-ul Huq said the present government's conduct against Mahmudur was not desirable.
“I am personally very shocked and saddened at this incident. I hope that the government will soon release Mahmudur Rahman and withdraw its decision to cancel declaration of the daily,” he said.
He urged the lawyers to be united to protect the fundamental and human rights of the people of the country.
Barrister Jamiruddin Sircar and Barrister Moudud Ahmed also spoke at the meeting.
