Mohiuddin declares poll manifesto

Awami League backed mayoral candidate ABM Mohiuddin Chowdhury yesterday declared his seven-point election manifesto with implementation of 'city government' topping the list.
Shortly after the announcement, Mohiuddin, also a member of Nagorik Committee, said there is no alternative to implementing 'city government' for ensuring comforts and multiple rights of the city dwellers.
Chittagong University Vice Chancellor Dr Abu Yusuf Alam, also a member of the committee, read the manifesto in a press conference at the main office of the committee around 3:30pm.
The manifesto highlighted different development works conducted by the former CCC mayor Mohiuddin during his three-term of office and his election pledges in seven separate segments including education, health, civic amenities, religions, housing, digital Chittagong and infrastructure.
As a part of materialising digital Chittagong, call centres would be established to ensure one-stop facilities and coordinating the civic amenities while public complaints would be solved quickly through 'mobile conservancy teams', said Professor Yusuf while reading the manifesto.
The manifesto also includes pledges of several projects to ensure civic amenities like setting up marine drive along the bank of the Karnaphuli with parking facilities, a convention centre of international standard, commuter train service, Dewanhat-Patenga flyover, playground in each city wards, job centre, multi-storied parking facility, permanent solution of water logging, introduction of a complete channel BTV-2 by replacing the existing Chittagong Television Centre.
Mayor Election Conducting Committee Chairman Ishaque Miah, Member Secretary and AL city unit General Secretary Kazi Inamul Hoque Danu, among others, were present in the conference.
Earlier in the morning, Mohiuddin started his electioneering through mass contact at Sobhania Madrasa at Asadganj and later spoke at several street meetings at Tigerpass, Jhautala Bihari Camp and Chawkbazar areas.
